ALAN EVANS, FCCA
With nearly 30 years experience, I am a highly professional Finance Director / Accountant (ACCA) in the Central Belt area serving Edinburgh, Glasgow and neighbouring towns, providing part time FD/CFO consulting services to start-ups/ early stage SME’s, along with one-off / ad hoc financial support and direction where required. I am based in Scotland but I am available to work elsewhere.
Background
It has been a privilege to work in the SME environment over the past ten years. Through the ventures vehicle of a corporate company (SSE), I have absorbed much valuable experience to add to the already highly professional financial support that I can provide to the start-up/SME.
Setting up B9AGE Consultancy to provide my services was the natural step forward.
Every business requires a financial roadmap in their Business Plan, in the same way as a technology or route to market roadmap is needed. Different funding will be required as the business grows and essential accounting and financial disciplines will be critical to ensure the financial readiness of the company. It is the professional knowledge and experience I have gained that is essential for success. My financial offering and experience is aligned with this financial roadmap.
Experience
I have undertaken all levels of financial activities and project management to ensure sound financial systems across a variety of business sectors, financial control, development of management accounts with rolling forecasts, presentation of Board Management Information, advice to the Board (not just financial statements), corporate governance enhancement and supporting the business to be in a fit state for potential exits.
As Finance Director of Logan Energy Limited since 2012, I have supported the business with all financial aspects to allow the company to concentrate on its technical and commercial activities and it is this that has driven me to utilise this experience for other potential start-ups and early stage SME’s.
Valuable experience with SSE over the years, including various exits of companies, setting up of new business, audit work, financial leg of a new business (Energy Services) and being Finance Director & Company Secretary of a medium sized mechanical & electrical contractor in the clean environment (Thermal Transfer) has given me a very broad exposure to enable me to give much advice.
Interestingly, I have been the financial support for selling a business through extensive financial due diligence and then setting this same company up in a new fund.
I also have a hands on approach, engaging with all levels of staff – something that is essential to the success of the business strategy.
